Jorge Daniel Veneciano

Currently the Director of the Sheldon Museum of Art, a post he has held since 2008, Jorge Daniel Veneciano will step down on March 1st, 2014 and take over the direction of Museo del Barrio, replacing Cuban curator Margarita Aguilar, who resigned last February.

Veneciano is the author of the award-winning essay The Geometric Unconscious: A Century of Abstraction y de Fabulous Harlequin: Orlan and the Patchwork Self, and he is also the founder and editor of artland magazine.

Previously, Veneciano worked as exhibition curator for Studio Museum in Harlem (1994-1999) and as director of the Paul Roberson Galleries at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey (205-2008). Besides being the director of the Sheldon Art Museum of the University of Nebraska, Veneciano is vice chairman of the Board and President of the Communications Committee of El Centro de las Americas in Lincoln, Nebraska, a member of the Board of Directors of Lincoln Partners Public Art Development, and a member of the Association of Art Museum Directors.

The new Director of El Museo del Barrio was a Professor in the Postgraduate Studies Division of the Rhode Island School of Design and, before moving to New York City in 1994, was a curator-director of the Lankershim Art Center (North Hollywood), of the William Reagh Photography Center (Los Angeles), and the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department.
