Jacanamijoy. Magic, Memory, Color.

The Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogota (MAMBO) presents from September 19 to November 8, 2013, the exhibition entitled Jacanamijoy. Magic, Memory, Color. 1992-2013 Retrospective.

The first retrospective by Colombian painter Carlos Jacanamijoy, the exhibition consists of 70 pieces created between 1992 and 2013, most of them large oil paintings, serigraphs, watercolors and drawings.

The works exhibited offer an approximation to the formal freedom that this artist of indigenous extraction has borrowed from expressionism and abstraction.

According to Álvaro Medina, the curator of the exhibition, Magic, Memory, Color alludes to the relationship between the works and the ancestral thinking of the Incas from the Putumayo region, the ethnic group Jacanamijoy belongs to.

The exhibition will be complemented by a series of conferences about Jacanamijoy's work and the indigenous world. The conferences will include the participation of Luis Martín-Lozano, Wade Davis, Rodolfo Llinás, Álvaro Medina and the artist himself. Activities for children and guided tours will also be part of the program. Additionally, a catalog written by Medina will be published and it will be accompanied by an analytic text.
