The Luis Caballero Award reaches its ninth edition. This initiative by the City Hall of Bogota, organized through the Instituto Distrital de las Artes (Idartes), consists of a public call, directed to artists over the age of 35, to participate in a series of artistic interventions (exhibitions) specifically conceived for the spaces where they are presented. For this edition of the event, visitors will find works created with different artistic mediums, including: photography, video, painting, and installation. The artists may select one of the participating spaces for their interventions by taking into account their history and architecture. The venues are: Espacio ArtNexus, Museo de Artes Visuales de la Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano, Archivo de Bogotá, Sala de exposiciones ASAB, Museo de Arte Moderno, Museo Santa Clara, and Plataforma Bogotá. The eight artists participating in the event were winners of the Nomination Phase of the 2016 District Stimulus Program of the 9th Luis Caballero Award. They are: Felipe Arturo, Rodrigo Echeverri, Lina González, Leonardo Herrera, Juan David Laserna, Adriana Marmorek, Ana Patricia Palacios, and Luis Fernando Ramírez. Their proposals were chosen from 23 projects submitted. Their works will be shown from August 26 of this year to January 8, 2018. Each of them will receive a purse of 32,200,000.00 Colombian Pesos (USD 11,100.00) for the creation of their projects. In the month of December 2017, the Instituto Distrital de las Artes (Idartes) will entrust a jury panel formed by Natalia Gutiérrez, Juan Mejía, and Mariana Varela, to select the winner of the 9th Luis Caballero Award. The award consists of a purse of 40,000,000.00 Colombian Pesos (USD 14,000.00). A catalog of the Ruta del Caballero (Route of Caballero) will be available to visitors. In addition to being an educational guide, the catalog will also serve as a tour guide to interact with the artists and their interventions.
