The Universidad de Córdoba (UCO) in Spain, in collaboration with the Universidad Internacional de Andalucía (UNIA), announces the opening of the call for participation in the 2017 Pilar Citoler International Biennial Award of Contemporary Photography. The requirements for this ninth edition of the event are: The call is open to Spanish and international contemporary visual artists. The Ninth Pilar Citoler International Biennial Award of Contemporary Photography will particularly consider the candidates' artistic trajectories, their international projection and the degree to which they incorporate contemporary photographic discourses in their works. A single award will be granted that consists of three parts: 1.Fifteen thousand euros. This purse will be subjected to any applicable taxes. The awarded work will become part of the art collection of the Universidad de Córdoba. The award ceremony will occur in February, 2018. 2.Solo show. To be presented during the last trimester of 2018 or the first trimester of 2019. The exhibition will showcase the artistic trajectory of the winner of this edition of the Biennial Award. The technical characteristics of the exhibition will be determined by the institution organizing the award. The exhibition's entire production and the framing of the works will the responsibility of the winning artist. 3.Monograph (The Eye That Sees Collection, Nº 9). A monography published in 2018-19 will analyze the artistic trajectory and production of the winning artist. The technical characteristics of the edition will be established by the University of Córdoba's Publishing Services, with the advices of the curator of the exhibition. The winning artist will provide digital images of his work for the book and any other material required for its proper completion. Participating artists must submit a single photographic work that may consist of a single image, diptych, polyptych or several other formats, as long as the piece is no larger than the call's accepted measurements (200 × 200 cm). In addition to individual candidates, artists can participate as part of a team formed by two persons or more, and participate with pseudonyms or heteronyms (which will be entered in the application form). Works must be unpublished and cannot have won any other competitions. Proposals can cover any theme, use any artistic approach and be exhibited in any way chosen by their authors. Proposals can be already finished works (framed or not) or scaled tests printed on high-quality photographic paper no larger than 70 × 70 cm or smaller than 30 × 30 cm. Recommended scale: 1/2 or 1/3 of the actual size of the work. The scaled test submitted must exactly correspond in all aspects to the original work that it represents. Any changes or alterations will be grounds for rejecting the work and thus keeping it from being considered during the selection of finalists. The works (whether in their finished form or as scaled test versions printed on high quality photographic paper) must be submitted during business days, between September 20 and October 20 of 2017.
