International Symposium on Modern Latin American Art. The Blanton Museum of Art.

The event took place on February 17th, on the occasion of the showing of The Geometry of Hope: Latin American Abstract Art from the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection, from February 20th until April 22nd. The symposium brings together prominent academics who stimulated discussion on topics such as the relationship between Latin American abstraction and Europe, the role of modernity in the culture of Latin America in the 20th century, and the tendencies of Latin American abstraction, among others. The event was organized by the Blanton in collaboration with the Cisneros Foundation and the New York University (NYU). A second symposium will take place in October 2007, when a version of the exhibition will be presented in the Grey Art gallery in NYU. Luis Pérez Oramas, Gabriel Pérez Barreiro, Ariel Jimenez, Jacqueline Barniz and María Amalia García will be among the speakers.
