The staff from the former Museum of Contemporary Art of North Miami will resume operations in a new location and under a new name: Institute of Contemporary Art. After month of feuding between the board of trustees of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA) and the City of North Miami, the news of the creation of the new institution was announced on August 6. While the institute will be eventually relocated to a permanent address, for the time being it will operate from the Moore Building, a well-known building in the Design District with a history of presenting cultural events. The new space has 12,500 square feet of exhibition space that was offered to the institution at no cost. Founded in 1994, the former MoCA and now Institute of Contemporary Art, boast a permanent collection of over 600 artworks. According to some sources, many of the donors of these artworks have declared that such works were given to the museum and not to the city of North Miami.
