Fundación PROA, located in the emblematic La Boca neighborhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina has recently partnered with the local NGO CasaSan to provide 1500 warm meals per week to its neighbors.
In a recent release PROA explained that: “We like to take care of the place we live in because we understand no person is an island. The key lies in strengthening our community so we can pull through without leaving anyone behind. In ordinary times, we would design art and education projects oriented to vulnerable populations, since we conceive art and culture as tools to grow and discover our full potential as human beings. But under these unusual circumstances, we found ourselves challenged to find new ways to stay close to our people.
We found the solution five blocks away in the hands of fundación CasaSan, a home that usually carries out up to 30 workshops (…) to more than 500 teenagers, who come from very harsh realities (…) today make long queues outside CasaSan since it’s the only place they can find their meal of the day.”
“The kids started calling me a few days after lockdown, they told me they were having a tough time at home, that they were finding it hard to find food, and I said to myself, we have to do something about this,” explained Mercedes Frassia, founder of the home, “but with our resources, we could only cover two days a week.”
This was the beginning of the new Café PROA experience.
