RAPACES 2010 is an Academic Residency Program for Emerging Central American artists that is organized by Espira/La Espora. Its purpose is to develop ties among visual creators that promote critical thinking and formal artistic production strategies in Central America. Espira/La Espora invites emerging artists from the Central American isthmus to submit their applications for the 2010 edition of this residency program entitled Índices e Íconos. The residency will last for 4 weeks, beginning on December 15, 2010, and ending on January 14, 2011. The theme of the residency centers in the use of signs in art. Artistic production will be analyzed based on its forms, and will delve into the mechanisms that each participant uses to build his/her own language. The residency was designed this year to welcome eighteen participants. The regional focus of the program relies on the conviction that cultural exchange is an essential instrument to build a personal identity and to discover new artistic talents. Exchange is understood as an open process that considers not only nationalities, but also age and gender. Thus, selection is geared toward achieving diversity. One work from each selected artist will become part of the Espira/La Espora Collection. Such a work may be used for any curatorial, promotional, or commercial purpose deemed appropriate by the organization.
