The Design District and the Institute of Contemporary Art of the City of Miami (ICA Miami) present Marta Minujín: Dreamscape, the artist's first public project in the city. The installation, which will be on view from March 18-31, features two monumental inflatable sculptures that exemplify the whimsical and multi- sensorial environments that have distinguished Minujín's artistic approach over the past six decades.
The works will be located in the Design District's Jungle Plaza. Sculpture of Desires (2019), 9 meters tall, is an imposing soft sculpture made up of intertwined arms that create an inflatable portal. A second immersive sculpture, on view for the first time, Emotional Candy (2025) is a maze of merging hallways intended to disorient visitors. Inside each piece, recordings of birdsong prompt participants to whisper their wishes to the sculptures as they walk through them. The fluorescent patterns of these large-scale works remind us of Minujín's early mattress sculptures from the mid-1960s, which originally bore her signature multicolored stripes and were meant to be explored.
The opening and a performance by the artist will take place on Tuesday, March 18 at 7:00 pm at Jungle Plaza, 3801 NE 1st Ave, Miami FL 33137. The event is free and open to the public. For more information and reservations visit:
