The Biennial of Fine and Visual Arts Award–Bogota 2014 invited emerging and well-established national and international artists to present projects that included elements from architecture and/or from the memory of the Fundación Gilberto Álzate Avedaño, the place in which the works selected are presented.
For this edition of the Award, the jury—which includes Natalia Gutiérrez, Carolina Ponce de León and Víctor Manuel Rodríguez—selected works by eight artists from among the 26 that participated in the competition. The projects will be showcased in two group exhibitions that will be consecutively shown and followed by an award ceremony that will offer acquisition prizes totaling COP$60,000,000.00 that will be allocated in parts of no less than COP$20,000,000.00 and up to COP$30,000,000.00. The winners will be announced on July 31 and their works will become part of the art collection of the Fundación Gilberto Álzate Avedaño.
The eight proposals selected offer a wide range of artistic practices that include: process art (Bernardo Montoya), performance (Nadia Granados), relational art (Eduard Moreno), historic research (David Lozano, Ana Mejía-Macmaster, Mario Opazo), institutional critique (William Bahos), and public art (Ana Karina Moreno).
The exhibition and award schedule is as follows:
The first exhibition will open on July 15 and will include works by artists William Bahos, Nadia Granados, David Lozano and Eduard Moreno.
The second exhibition will open on July 31—also the day in which the award ceremony will take place—and remain open until September 5. It will include works by artists Ana María Mejía-Macmaster, Bernardo Montoya, Ana Karina Moreno and Mario Opazo.
