The 2012 District Stimulus Program of the District Secretariat for Culture, Recreation, and Sports, through the Gilberto Alzate Avendaño Foundation, is calling for submissions to the 2nd Visual Arts Biennial Award Bogotá 2012.
The call is open to adult visual artists who are Colombian citizens or have resided in the country for a minimum of 5 years. Artists with a university degree must demonstrate a career in the arts of at least 10 years, with solo and group shows (a minimum of one in the last 4 years). Artists without a university degree must demonstrate a 20-year career and have at least 2 solo exhibitions in the last 2 years.
Winners of the 1st Visual Arts Biennial Award Bogotá 2010, artistic collectives or groups, individuals related up to a second degree of consanguinity with the District Secretariat for Culture, Recreation, and Sports' team and the team of its ascribed institutions, and individuals with work or personal ties to the award, its organizers, or its jury, are excluded from participation.
Each artist can present up to two proposals in writing (typewriter or word processor). In a maximum of four pages, the artist will describe the project and the conceptual guidelines to be followed. The proposal must include images of the work and its technical specs, specifications for setup, a print or digital (PDF or JPG) portfolio describing the artist's most relevant projects, and a CV of his or her artistic career. Proposals will be accepted through June 15th, 2012 and must be delivered to the Visual Arts Administration.
The total monetary reward is 60,000,000 Colombian pesos (around US$33,300), to be distributed according to the jury's determination into awards no lower than 20,000,000 and no higher than 30,000,000 Colombian pesos. Additionally, the award will include two collective exhibitions with works selected by the Biennial's jury. The first exhibition will be held from July 31st through August 31st, and the second September 14th through October 14th, 2012, in the Foundation's facilities.
