On November 30, Montevideo inaugurated its first International Art Biennial. It includes works by approximately 50 contemporary artists from 25 countries.
Centered on the theme of "The Great South," the biennial includes sculptures, paintings, photographs, and videos about the cultural production, traditions, and politics of South American, African and Asian societies. It will remain open to the public until March 30 of 2013.
The exhibition will be presented in four venues of the Banco de la República Oriental del Uruguay (BROU), including at the Atarazana building, the oldest construction in Montevideo, and the San Francisco de Asís Church. These are "large spaces and works especially created for this biennial," affirmed Efe Hug, curator of the biennial.
