The first annual Houston Fine Art Fair will be held September 15th-18th, 2011 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. National, international, and Texas-based galleries will present a vast array of important modern and contemporary artworks, including painting, sculpture, works on paper, installation, and photography. The fair will have a focus on Latin American art, represented by important US and internal galleries featuring works by both well-established and emerging artists. HFAF director Fran Kaufman and Associate Producer Ilana Vardy¿both with over 40 years of experience in the art world¿have actively recruited outstanding galleries with well-defined criteria, interesting artists, and strong representations of Texan, US, Latin American, and European production. The Fair¿s host committee, a selection of Houston¿s art-world and philanthropic personalities, as well as numerous cultural partners, have cleared the path for a dynamic and exciting opening event, which will start with an inaugural reception on the evening of September 15th in honor of the Glassell School CORE Program of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. In its support of the CORE program, the HFAF will display works by the eight current CORE Fellows, as well as the four incoming ones, offering them the opportunity of exhibiting in Houston for the first time. Among the events planned alongside the fair are a VIP Program, installations, and spaces for on-site projects, as well as a series of conferences and discussion panels with expert leaders, designed to attract both young and experienced collectors. The fair¿s VIP program includes private museum tours, such as one with Anne Tucker of the Helmut Newton show at the MFAH.
