Tribute to Augusto Ferrari's 150 years, Leon Ferrari's father

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Augusto Ferrari, architect, painter, photographer, and Leon's father, to be celebrated on August 31, his heirs pay homage to his memory by promoting the complete patrimonial protection of his architectural works in Argentina: the villas, the renowned San Possidonio Castle - the name of Ferrari's Italian hometown, which is currently being enhanced to become the local venue of a chain of cafés with franchises in several museums in Buenos Aires.
Augusto was born in 1871 in San Possidonio, Italy. He studied architecture at the University of Genoa and painting at the Academy of Turin and later at the Industrial Museum of the same city. In 1914 he arrived in Argentina at 43 and worked for the Capuchin monks in Buenos Aires. He makes extensive commissioned pictorial works and murals. He married his wife, Celia, with whom he had five children.
Augusto spent a season perfecting his skills in Italy until he returned to Buenos Aires in 1926. There he organized an exhibition at the Witcomb Gallery, where he begins his career as an architect. In Buenos Aires, he supervised and directed the construction of the Abbey of San Benito, in the neighborhood of Belgrano; in Córdoba, he designed the chapels of the Hermanas de la Misericordia and Nuestra Señora del Huerto; the churches of Villa Allende, Unquillo (in the sierras) and the one in the city of Río Cuarto. At the same time, in 1929, he bought several plots of land in the mountains, where he spent the summers with his family. Lined up on Avenida del Carmen, he built in different stages a dozen residences with a striking imprint and fondness for the mixture of styles (romantic, gothic, neo-gothic, modern, among others).
The Ferrari Foundation intends to encourage the protection of the promenade that runs along with Avenida del Carmen in Cordoba. "It is very important to have some kind of incentive for the owners, who maintain with an effort the heritage. That would commit them in the future to comply with conservation guidelines and conditions; for example, it would prevent businesses from opening in the front part of the gardens. Avoiding the disaster that would be the Avenida del Carmen full of businesses," maintained his daughter, Susana Ferrari, in her 90s.
