Aimed at opening new channels of discussion centered on cultural and historic practices from a perspective based on critical theories, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Chile will present a seminar entitled History of Art and Feminism: Stories, Lectures, Writings, and Omissions. The event will include the participation of art historian Stella Salinero (Chile), philosopher Alejandra Castillo (Chile), and art historian Emma de Ramón (Chile). The event will also include the participation of the following international experts: artist and researcher, Mónica Mayer (Mexico), and professor María Laura Rosa (Argentina).
The seminar will take place on September 26 of 2012. It is a free event and it will be held at the José Miguel Blanco salon. The event is sponsored by the Facultad de Artes de la Pontificia Universidad Católica in Chile and by the Centro de Estudios de Género y Cultura en América Latina of the Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades, Universidad de Chile.
Among other themes, the encounter will analyze the image of women in the history of art and the conditions under which women artists produce art in Chile and Latin America, with special attention given to works by pioneering female artists in the fields of performance art and audiovisual media.
