From June 24 to August 24, the Fundación Rosón Arte Contemporáneo (RAC) celebrates its 10th anniversary with an exhibition by Héctor Zamora, the 2016 guest artist-in-residence. Zamora was born in Mexico and currently lives in Portugal. This is his first solo show in Spain, where he presents a project consisting of works divided into three groups. Occupying the entirety of the main floor, the first group is formed by a series of refractory pieces whose fabrication process begins in mines with the extraction of the different types of refractory clays with which to create the works. These clays are dried and broken into several granulometries for their eventual incorporation into the different mixtures used for the fabrication of the pieces. The pieces in turn create a series of glyphs—engraved, written or painted signs—that constitute codices referencing the language of pre-Columbian cultures. The second group is composed of a series of meanders that make reference to those found in the pyramids of Mitla. And, occupying the basement level, the third group consists of two never before shown pieces that resume the articulation of the exhibition project. One of them is titled Tugla, a video that shows the brick extraction process. The video is based on a series of images formed by shadows resembling cave paintings. Located in Pontevedra, Galicia, the Fundación Rosón Arte Contemporáneo aims at supporting art and culture through projects and activities that encourage artistic creation and its dissemination in Galicia as well as at the national and international levels.
