Gustavo Vélez

Colombian sculptor Gustavo Vélez was invited by the city of Pietrasanta to exhibit his sculptural work. Located in Tuscany, this Italian city is regarded as the birthplace of sculpture in Italy. The city experienced a boom during the 15th Century due to its proximity to the marble quarries in Carrara and the important role of marble in Michelangelo's work.

Every year, the city invites an artist to present his/her work in several places in the city. In 2012, another Colombian artist, Fernando Botero—who just turned 80—was also invited.

Vélez has participated in international art fairs in Japan, Korea, China, the US, Colombia, Panama, the UK and Spain.

The exhibition will be open from October to December of 2013. Vélez will intervene the emblematic Piazza Duomo and the Chiesa di San Agustino with 32 medium and large sculptures. For this reason, he will spend most of his time in Italy to produce the pieces for this exhibition.
