Grimanesa Amorós presents the installation SCIENTIA, at the Atrio, Azkuna Zentroa, in Bilbao, Spain. Starting from the importance of light to improve people’s mood and mental health, the artist proposes this installation to promote moments of self-reflection and personal fulfillment.
“A means to access our emotional self, providing a manifested mental space to nurture self-realization and promote community engagement.”
This site-specific installation is part of the artistic program accompanying the first international congress, The Wellbeing Summit for Social Change, that addressed social and community change through collective action. On the site-specific installation, the artist expressed: “My light sculpture SCIENTIA will engage visitors in a dialogue with the surrounding architecture and community, encouraging moments of self-reflection and personal realization while simultaneously creating connection through the medium of light.”
Grimanesa Amorós is a Peruvian-born American artist whose work explores community connection within the intersection of history, technology, and architecture. Her monumental lighting sculptures incorporate video, lighting, and electronic elements to create immersive environments. She draws upon important cultural legacies for inspiration.
Azkuna Zentroa is the Bilbao Society and Contemporary Culture Centre, with a local and international perspective open to dialogue with different community groups.
The installation will be on view until August 31, 2022. For more information, visit:
