The Museo Experimental el Eco presents "Das Nest," the latest work by Gerda Gruber (Bratislava, 1940), an Austrian sculptor who has been living and working in Mexico since 1975. This ephemeral installation aims to revive an artistic dialogue through sculptures woven in the air, exploring the concept of shelter as a constant reflection in her work.
Gruber's proposal is inspired by the structure of the museum itself and by elements proposed by Goeritz, such as long corridors, high walls, and the positioning of certain steles. Using organic materials such as cotton, bamboo, palm, and stones, the artist creates a temporary nest that integrates with the architecture of the place.
In addition to the main intervention, visitors will be able to enjoy an 18-minute artistic documentary titled "Puño, palma pulso. Gerda Gruber" and a series of materials from the artist's workshop, which offer a detailed insight into her creative process.
Gerda Gruber has left a significant mark on the Mexican art scene since her arrival in the country in 1975. Her connection with Mexico was strengthened by founding the Sculpture Workshop in Clay at the National School of Plastic Arts (ENAP) in 1976.
"Das Nest" can be visited until August 24, 2024, at the Museo Experimental el Eco, C. James Sullivan 43, San Rafael, Cuauhtémoc, 06470 Mexico City, CDMX, Mexico.
