Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros is presenting an exhibition of works by artist Alexander Apóstol. The show, titled Geometría, acción y souvenirs del discurso insurgente, was conceived from four texts by David Alfaro Siqueiros talking about the relation between art and politics.
For Apóstol, the Siqueiros manifests bring us towards four fundamental principles in the Western ideology: Politics, Science, Faith and Economy; analytic structures that the artist re-directed towards the mathematical interpretation of those writings, turning them into a numerical, serial and obsessive representation that limits representation to reiterative geometric elements.
"What I am somehow trying to unveil here, are certain political and social clues parting from Siqueiros´ texts which not only include Mexico, but the Latin American region, throughout its whole strategy of production". As stated by the artist, he normally tries to find "the specific social and political codes of a given society, by means of the artistic practice, history of art or architecture". "
Geometry, Action and Souvenirs from the Insurgent Discourse " is curated by Taiyana Pimentel and will be on view through March 15.
