The winners of the 51st edition of the CINTAS Fellowship, awarded by the CINTAS Foundation, were announced on October 10th in Miami. They are Carlos Alberto Fleitas (Architecture), Ivette Herryman (Music Composition), Carlos A. Aguilera (Creative Writing), and Rafael Domenech (Visual Arts). Separate juries for each category award the CINTAS Fellowships. In the Visual Arts, the jurors were Claire Breukel, Juan Roselione-Valadez, José Carlos Díaz, and Jeremy Mikolajczak. As finalists, they selected Rafael Domenech, Florencio Gelabert, Antuán Rodríguez, Clara Varas, and Vanessa Díaz, all featured in a group exhibition at Miami Dade College's emblematic Freedom Tower, where the awards ceremony was held. The CINTAS Fellowship was established under a bequest and instructions left by sugar and railroad tycoon Oscar B. Cintas (1887-1957), an important collector and patron of the arts. Cintas bequeathed part of his state to promote the recognition of Cuban artists living outside the island. The first fellowships were awarded in 1963, and more than 300 Cuban artists have enjoyed them since then.
