Gabriela Mistral / Contemporary Art Gallery, a space of the Culture Council, reopened its doors on August 30th with a new curatorial proposal helmed by Florencia Loewenthal.
Among the main shifts in the space's direction starting the second half of this year is the introduction of a new methodology for the selection of exhibitions. The shows will be organized by international guest curators, who will select artists after the presentation of a portfolio, rather than a specific exhibition project.
Rodrigo Alonso from Argentina, Rodrigo Quijano from Peru, and Fernanda Albuquerque from Brazil will be the guest curators supporting this new period, enhancing the ties between Chile and the regional scene, and boosting the internalization of both the gallery and the artists it presents.
The gallery reopened with a show curated by Rodrigo Alonso, who selected works by Camila Ramírez, Raimundo Edwards, and Andrés Vial.
These three artists work on different yet complementary lines: Camila Ramírez explores the concept of community from a political and sociological perspective; Raimundo Edwards creates a kind of archeology in the interstices between the natural and urban worlds; Andrés Vial takes an anthropological study of the city and its inhabitants as his starting point.
