Gabriel Kuri: Pronósticos. Jumex Museum

The exhibition is curated by Kit Hammonds, chief curator, and Adriana Kuri Alamillo, curatorial assistant. Gabriel Kuri (Mexico City, 1970) integrates notions of conceptual art and minimalism in his work, endowing them with visual humor. Specifically, the exhibition at Museo Jumex has as a transversal axis the proposal of art as a prognosis, "Kuri considers that his works can provide information, which in turn could predict what is to come."
This exhibition is the first large-scale exhibition of Kuri's work in Mexico and includes more than 50 works, most of them produced by the artist in the last ten years. The show succeeds in giving an account of recurring themes in Kuri's artistic production, such as "notions like exchange value, function, speculation or the evaluation of risk," themes that are translated into pieces that "evidence the simplicity of an idea and the forcefulness of a metaphor." This last quote was taken from a review published by ArtNexus and written by Elisa Rodriguez on the occasion of the artist's exhibition at WIELS, Centre d'Art Contemporain de Bruxelles, in 2019.
The exhibition will be on view until October 15, 2023, at Museo Jumex, Blvd. Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra 303, Granada, Miguel Hidalgo, 11520 Mexico City, CDMX, Mexico.
