Gabriel de la Mora

Mexican artist Gabriel de la Mora presents the exhibition titled "Sound Inscriptions on Fabric" at the Drawing Center in New York City. The exhibition will remain open until September 2 of 2016. Under the curatorship of Brett Littman, "Sound Inscriptions on Fabric" consists of fifty-five pairs of found speaker screens. Each screen has an inscription "drawn" by the dust and air that circulated through the speaker during its useful life as result of the cadence of countless voices, advertisements, news broadcasts, soap operas, football games, music, noise, interference, and silence. Trained as an architect, de la Mora is best known for working with discarded and obsolete found objects like eggshells, human hair, and shoe soles. He describes such objects as articles that contain historic records of everyday life.
