Fundación Venancio Blanco

Sculptor and teacher Venancio Blanco has created a foundation that will be named after him. The Fundación Venancio Blanco was born with the purpose of showcasing Blanco's drawings and sculptures¿as well as works by other contemporary artists¿and bringing art closer to society and to young people in particular. Blanco was born in Matilla de los Caños (Salamanca) in 1923. He belonged to the Seis Escultores group¿part of the neo-figurative sculpture movement¿that was formed in the 1960s, in Madrid. Since 1977, Blanco has been member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, and is also a member of other academies in Spain and in the city of Rome. This project is based on the knowledge, discourse and experience¿he is also a full member of the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando¿acquired Blanco has acquired throughout his long artistic trajectory. The foundation will present exhibitions, held educational activities and sponsor research projects. Paco Blanco, the sculptor's son, said at Wednesday's announcement that the activities held at the foundation will emphasize sculpture and drawing, particularly as these pertain to the techniques and materials used in the workshop, such as modeling, forging, working with wax and plaster, among others. Among the works exhibited in the Blanco's workshop, there is a small size sculpture that depicts a bull and a bullfighter; a work that Anthony Quinn owned and that is now once again in the hands of its creator.
