The new Fundación Teatro Odeón (FTO) was inaugurated in October of this year. After 10 years abandoned, the Teatro Popular in Bogotá (TPB) has been renovated and reinvented-in a rather organic manner as the architectural interventions on the venue utilized elements from and around the site in order to revamp the space. Located in the city's historic center, the FTO offers an innovative concept in which new ideas from several sources within the visual arts, film, conferences, research, and theater programs, among others, will be proposed. The FTO exists because of the efforts of a young group of people consisting of Tatiana Rais (Director), Juliana Steiner (Administrative Manager), and Maria Fernanda Currea (Cultural Manager); and also because of the involvement as an advisor of Nelly Peñaranda, Director of Arteria magazine. While remaining conscious and mindful of the surroundings and the architectural past of the structure during the entire renovation process, the Fundación succeeded in consolidating a center for the development and growth of contemporary art in Bogota¿a city that has become the birthplace of an increasing number of artists and visionaries with initiatives and abilities that broaden and nourish the artistic landscape by offering several creative alternatives aimed at enriching the availability of cultural proposals. According to a spokesperson from the Fundación "Bogota has reached a point in which it has become necessary to create and develop new exhibition spaces for contemporary art that are willing to take risks not solely through their proposals, but also with the design of the venues that house such proposals." Above all, the Fundación Odeón searches for, and strives to offer, the possibility of healthy diversification in the cultural environment of Bogota.
