Fundación Museo de Arte Moderno "Jesús Soto"

Inaugurated in 1973, the Museo de Arte Moderno Jesús Soto was designed by Carlos Raúl Villanueva. The building reveals architectural features that are consistent with the profile of an art collection that treasures examples of the most important artistic tendencies from the Twentieth Century within the currents of Abstraction, Constructivism, Kinetic Art and New Realism.

During its 40 years of existence, this institution has concentrated its efforts in the education and development of the sensitivity of the citizenry. Today, its cultural heritage consists of more than 700 artworks by authors like Agam, Schöffer, Delaunay, Fontana, Tinguely, Albers, Malevich and Arp, to name a few, as well as works by Latin American creators like Le Parc, Demarco, Sobrino, Otero, Cruz-Diez and Rayo, among others. The works are exhibited in permanent and temporal collections across the nine exhibition rooms that are part of the building. There are three permanent collections exclusively dedicated to the work by the master Jesús Soto.

To celebrate its 40th anniversary on August 25 of 2013, the institution has embarked in process of openness and interaction with the community. It has established cooperation alliances with other institutions in order to expand its range of action and to offer activities that contribute to the strengthening and consolidation of culture and social integration. To mark its 40 years, the institution has programmed exhibitions about the history of the museum and the study and assessment of the collection, along with the institutionalization of the project entitled Los Maestros Guayaneses (The Guyanese Masters), with the goal of supporting regional artists in recognition of their creative work. To complement these initiatives, the museum will also offer educational programs like the Angostura Art Workshop; lines of action made possible by the support of the government of the Bolívar State—a tutelary entity—the Corporación Venezolana de Guayana and the Ministerio del Poder Popular for Culture.
