Fundación MAPFRE opens the KBr photography Center

The KBr Photography Center launches a new stage of Fundación MAPFRE dedicated to artistic photography, one of its leading cultural activity areas since 2009.
The two exhibitions with which this center opened are on Bill Brandt (Hamburg, 1904-London, 1983), the first retrospective held in Spain of one of the most influential British photographers of the 20th century. Curated by Ramón Esparza, it brings together 186 photographs developed by Bill Brandt himself, who over almost five decades addressed the main genres of the photographic field: social reportage, portraiture, nudes, and landscape, as his biographer Paul Delany points out in Bill Brandt. A Life (2004). The second exhibition is dedicated to Paul Strand (1890-1976), curated by Juan Naranjo, with which the Fundación initiates a program of shows based on the funds in their collection. For the first time individually, the Paul Strand Photography Collection, the most extensive collection of works by this exceptional photographer preserved outside the United States, will be on display. Both exhibitions will be open until January 24, 2021.
Located in one of Barcelona's most representative buildings: the MAPFRE Tower, the center has 1,400 m2 and has two exhibition halls, a space for educational activities, an auditorium, and a bookstore, making KBr a national and international reference in the field of photography. They plan to develop a permanent educational program aimed at training future generations in the understanding of photographic language and its artistic dimension.
