Fundación Heriberto Nieves

Artist Heriberto Nieves and his work team have been occupied with the creation of a foundation. It will be a non-profit organization that will offer research grants in the fields of the visual arts in Puerto Rico. One of the objectives of this new foundation is to establish workshops for young students that will focus on creating proposals and concepts in the visual arts field. The foundation will also offer a scholarship for one university student to complete a Masters degree at the Academia de San Carlos of the Universidad Autónoma de México. The Fundación Heriberto Nieves also plans to spearhead a literacy campaign by creating workshops for rural and urban communities, especially targeted at Puerto Rican women. The effort will also aim at educating mothers on the importance of encouraging their children to develop their artistic abilities. The spaces at the foundation will include two exhibition areas, the first for temporary exhibitions and to provide emerging young and professional artists with the opportunity to showcase their works. The second exhibition space will present the permanent collection, including the works of Heriberto Nieves and other Puerto Rican masters. Nieves' personal collection and other international artworks will be donated to the foundation.
