Fundación ArtNexus’ "Transgressions, Women Who Question"

Vortic launched the collective initiative Female Voices of Latin America to create awareness to a group of artists that have sometimes been invisible to the international art world. The leading virtual and augmented reality platform for the art world, Vortic, aimed to celebrate the work of more than 150 living artists from more than 19 different countries in the region through more than 60 galleries, collectors, and institutions. According to Vortic, it is "the largest presentation of Latin American female artists in history, a group that has traditionally been underrepresented in the art world on a global scale."
"Transgressions, Women Who Question" brings together a selection of works by sixteen women artists from Latin America who present an approach—through cultural, social, economic, and political perspectives—to the pain and suffering that today entails being a woman. The artists delve into mistreatment and abuse; violent femininity; the transformation and transgression in the traditional ideas of marriage, love, heartbreak, motherhood, and sexuality; and political violence. The first edition of the exhibition presented in ArtNexus.com included eighteen artists, including María Teresa Hincapié (Colombia, 1956 - 2008) and Graciela Sacco (Argentina, 1954-2017). It was curated by: Celia Sredni de Birbragher and Natalia Espinel Valencia.
For this latest edition, the exhibition is presented in two parts: eight artists and three works by each one of them. The artist in Part I are: Doris Salcedo, Milagros de la Torre, Regina José Galindo, Adriana Lestido, Voluspa Jarpa, María José Arjona, Rosângela Rennó, and Adriana Varejão. To visit: https://vortic.art/exhibitions/2239. In Part II, the artists are: Valeska Soares, Priscilla Monge, Adriana Marmorek, Beth Moysés, Teresa Margolles, Jessica Lagunas, Libia Posada, and Natalia Iguiñiz. To visit: https://vortic.art/exhibitions/2512.
The participating galleries and institutions will be on view until May 30; next to Fundación ArtNexus, there are exhibitions by Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá (MAMBO) (Colombia), el Museo Tamayo (Mexico), Gasworks (United Kingdom), Museo de Mujeres Artistas – MUMA (Mexico), Sala Mendoza (Venezuela) y el Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo (MADC) (Costa Rica), along with galleries such as Luisa Strina (Brazil), Casa Triangulo (Brazil), Casas Riegner (Colombia), A Gentil Carioca (Brazil), Aninat (Chile), Bergamin & Gomide (Brazil), Fortes D'Aloia & Gabriel (Brazil), Freijo (Spain), Galeria Jaqueline Martins (Brazil), Instituto de Visión (Colombia), mor charpentier (France), Rolf Art (Argentina), Nora Fisch (Argentina), nueveochenta (Colombia), and Proyectos Ultravioleta (Guatemala).
The initiative has been curated by a selection committee led by Elena Saraceni, along with independent curator Kiki Mazzucchelli, Leslie Ramos (Founder of ArtEater), Lassla Esquivel Durand (Co-Founder of Periferia Projects), and Alessandra Modiano (Sales Director of Victoria Miro). The platform was founded by Oliver Miro of Victoria Miro in London. The curatorial liaison for Fundacion ArtNexus was Elisa Rodriguez.
Elena Saraceni, about the initiative, said, "We have grown tired of not seeing Latin American women artists receive the recognition they deserve in life. As a platform, Female Voices of Latin America pays a well-deserved tribute to those with remarkable artistic careers, in addition to promoting the current and next generation of artists. This presentation has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of galleries, museums, and non-profit organizations in and outside Latin America that contribute to the development of this expanding art scene. The future of our industry will depend on the exchange, mutual support, and collaboration. Through meaningful and memorable initiatives like this one, we hope to contribute to the art scene with the greatest possible impact."
