Wednesday, February 8, 2023, began the second edition of the Fundación Ama Amoedo Residencia Artistica (FAARA) and welcomed Paola Monzillo and Rita Ponce de León to Casa Neptuna. Two of six artists selected to participate, they behan their six-week residency at Casa Neptuna and will stay through March 18 as they carry out research critical to their practices.
This year’s Selection Committee is composed of Solana Chehtman, Director of Artist Programs, Joan Mitchell Foundation, New York; Miguel A. López, Independent Curator and Writer, Lima and, Tobias Ostrander, Estrellita B. Brodsky Associate Curator of Latin American Art, Tate Modern, London. Artists selected for the second iteration of the Residency are Marilyn Boror Bor (Guatemala); Seba Calfuqueo (Chile); Lizania Cruz (Dominican Republic); Paola Monzillo (Uruguay); Rita Ponce de León (Peru) and Florencia Sadir (Argentina).
The Fundación program is designed for artists from Latin America, the Caribbean, and the diaspora to deepen their practices in a natural environment that provides concentration and support. The goal of the residency is to stimulate artistic research through a personalized plan of activities and visits for each resident artist.
During each cycle, the artists share a working and living space in Casa Neptuna, a house commissioned by the Argentine artist Edgardo Giménez that is near the ocean in the native forest of José Ignacio, Uruguay. During the residency, the artists participate in a program of activities specially tailored to their interests and practices. The residents have the opportunity to carry out studio visits with the members of the Selection Committee and present their work to the local community in a public talk at SUBTE in Montevideo, Uruguay. The Foundation covers travel expenses and awards each artist a scholarship at the end of the residency.
The first edition of FAARA was held in 2021, with Casa Neptuna welcoming artists Marcela Sinclair (Argentina), Sofía Gallisá (Puerto Rico), Adriana Bustos (Argentina), Liliana Angulo Cortés (Colombia), Andres Bedoya (Bolivia), and Noé Martínez (Mexico).
