Fleeting | Art of Coexisting

Fugaz | Arte de Convivir (Fleeting | Art of Coexisting), is a socio cultural project developed by a group of Peruvian artists and entrepreneurs in the El Callao neighborhood, in Lima, aimed at showcasing the architectural and social wealth of the historic downtown, in an area greatly hurt by violence, poverty, and the absence of any social management. The proposal invites viewers to survey the streets through art, gastronomy, history, graffiti and social culture. Those who have already become part of Fugaz today have residences in which to live, offices in which to work, and proposals to create to continue nourishing the itinerary of experiences. The proposal is enriched through the participation of art and design stores, restaurants, art galleries, creative workshops for children, artist workshops and, each weekend, different content, enveloped by the language of the neighborhood, results in concerts, parties, and guided tours. One of the achievements of this project has been an up to 90 percent decrease in the crime rate since Fugaz began. For the first time, the community in this area of El Callao is exposed to referents of work, art and social life that offer opportunities that are greatly different from those available a year ago. With the guidance of the members of Fugaz, the community has begun to participate in workshops with a psychologist and develop new skills and relationships.
