Frida Kahlo - her photos at the Kulturhuset Stadsteatern center

Different photos illustrating Frida Kahlo's everyday life will be presented at the Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, Stockholm, Sweden, until September 30, 2023.
This same exhibition was shown at the Museo la Casa Azul in 2009, curated by Pablo Ortiz Monasterio, photographer and photograph historian. The exhibition has traveled to more than 20 countries (Germany, Australia, Brazil, Portugal, New Zealand among others) and has had about 1 million visitors. On this occasion the cultural center Kulturhuset Stadsteatern hosts the exhibition for its relevance as a sample of different periods in the life of the famous Mexican artist.
The exhibition brings together 241 photographs that were part of the more than 6,000 images discovered in the Casa Azul where the artist lived in Mexico City. When she died in 1954, all her belongings remained in storage for decades following the instructions of her partner, Diego Rivera. It was not until 2003 that her archive opened, which included drawings, medicines, letters, among others. Subsequently, these assets inherited from the artist were donated to become part of a museum.
"Frida Kahlo - her photos" is divided into six sections: Los orígenes (The Origins); La Casa Azul (The Blue House); Política, Revoluciones y Diego (Politics, Revolutions and Diego); Su cuerpo roto (Her Broken Body); Los amores de Frida (Frida's Loves); and Fotografía (Photography). Some of the exhibited pieces were taken by Frida's friends such as Man Ray, Edward Weston, Tina Modotti, Pierre Verger, among others. The institution wants to highlight the importance of photography as an interest that was always in the artist's career, first because her grandfather and father were photographers. In addition, the artist gathered over the years daguerreotypes, business cards from the 19th century, photographs of her family and friends, portraits and intervened images that she cut out and on which she wrote dedications, personalizing them as unique artworks. In this sense, the coming together of these images seems to be a self-portrait of Frida, addressing her particular form of composition, her complexity and the fragmentation of her own identity.
