The National Museum of Photography - FOTOMUSEO Foundation in Bogota, Colombia, is currently accepting applications to participate in this year¿s Fotomaraton. Unlike earlier editions, this year¿s competition will center around digital photography created by professionals and amateurs alike. It will also include a separate category for students of film photography. Colombian and international, and professional and amateur photographers may participate. They must be present in Bogotá to attend the Fotomaraton on Saturday, September 13, and Sunday September 14, 2008. Applications must be submitted no later than 5:00 pm on Thursday, September 11. The application fee is $25 USD for amateur photographers and $37.50 USD for professional photographers. Fotomaratón (photo-marathon) will grant five prizes among its participants, distributed in the following way: Professional category: 1st Professional MASTER CARD Prize: 10.000.000 (ten million Colombian pesos, cash). 2nd Professional EPSON Prize: Professional large format EPSON STYLUS PRO 4800 printer. Amateur category: 1st Amateur FUNDACIÓN MARIO SANTO DOMINGO Prize: 5.000.000 (five million Colombian pesos, cash). 2nd FOTOJAPON Prize: 3.000.000 (three million colombian pesos) cash or in product. Analog 35 mm category, only for students. One single prize of 2.000.000. (two million Colombian pesos) cash or in product. The Fotomaraton and the Fotomuseo have recently been considered as models for creating a similar event in cities of another countries. The non-profit Municipal Art Society in New York has contacted the Fotomuseo director, Gilma Suárez, to inquire concerning the possibility of duplicating this event in that city.
