Aimed at generating a reflective, expressive, and participatory process in connection to themes that are relevant to, and framed by, adolescent and young adults and that are conveyed through photography, the United Nations Population Fund in México (UNFPA) invites Mexican and international photographers under the age of 35, to participate in the Fourth ¿Mirada Joven¿ Photographic Competition. The photographs must center on the Millenium Development Goals (MDG), the objectives that 189 countries have agreed to achieve during a conference, also known as the Millennium Summit, organized by United Nations. From the eight MDGs that have been proposed, the call has chosen to focus on three of these: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger; Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women; and Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and Other Diseases. Participants may submit color or black and white photographs taken with analog or digital cameras, or with cellular phones. The photographs cannot be altered though photomontages that could change the image's nature. The jury will grant four prizes and eight mentions. The jury will also recognize those authors whose photographs are also selected to be included in the exhibition. In addition, a People's Choice Award will be granted as a special recognition to the photograph¿in any category¿that receives the most votes from the public at the event's homepage. A selection of the winning works and mentions will be published in the magazines¿printed or electronic¿that sponsor the event. The winning photographs, as well as those that receive Honourable Mentions or are selected by the jury, will be included in a traveling exhibition that will be inaugurated on November 29 at the Palacio de Minería. This exhibition will be presented throughout 2011 at several cultural and academic venues across Mexico. The images entered in the competition will become part of the United Nations Population Fund in México (UNFPA). This institution reserves the right to reproduce the images in any way and format deemed appropriate, in order to exhibit them and/or include them in specialized printed, electronic, or audiovisual materials, as well as in articles associated with the advertisement and promotion of the competition, etc. The authors will be properly credited for their works.
The deadline to submit all materials is October 5, 2010. More information at:
