Recently concluded restoration of Keith Haring’s mural in São Paulo

The mural by Keith Haring that he made on his 1984 visit to São Paulo, on a warehouse wall that functioned as a meat distribution center in São Paulo’s Lapa neighborhood, was discovered four years ago. On a fine rectangle of little more than two meters by one meter and a half, the artist painted a figure with crab legs, and various silhouettes of elongated human forms.
Back in 1984, one year after a commented participation of Haring in the São Paulo Biennial’s 17th edition, and when the artist was on the rise, the mural at the current Tendal da Lapa Cultural Center, discovered by Jurandy Valença in 2017, at the time coordinating two cultural centers and theaters of the Municipal Secretary of Culture of São Paulo, has recently been restored to its original state by restorer Julio Moraes.
From 2013 to now, large-scale public graffiti created by the artist are being restored in Paris, New York, Amsterdam, and even in a fishermen's village in Serra Grande, off the coast of Bahia, where Haring used to spend time at the house of his friend Kenny Scharf*.
