Viña del Mar International Film Festival-FICVIÑA 2015

The 27th edition of the Viña del Mar International Film-FICVIÑA 2015, the longest-standing film event in Chile, will take place from September 1 through September 5 of this year. This edition will include the participation of Cuba as guess country, with the purpose of showcasing the rich legacy of Cuban cinema and the important role it has played in Latin American motion pictures. The retrospective will begin with the history of film during the end of the 1970s, when filmmakers of the time found in Cuba a new place to gather, in the context of the first edition of the Havana Film Festival in 1979. The festival will conclude on the same day that organizers plan to announce the winners of each of the six categories competing for the sought-after PAOA, the highest award granted to the best films for each category. The films were selected from among a total of four hundred works from countries including Argentina, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Spain, Uruguay, Ecuador and Chile. All the movies will be screened to the public free of charge. The showings will be held at the movie theaters of Cinemark Mall Marina Arauco, Cine Arte anda Sala Artequín, in Viña del Mar, and at the Aula Magna and Rubén Dario screens of the Universidad de Valparaíso in the port city.
