The 4 + 1 Film Festival, organized and promoted by the MAPFRE Foundation, will take place simultaneously in Argentina Brazil, Colombia, Spain, and Mexico.
The festival will be held November 21-25, 2012. Its main goal is to bring back the most significant titles of recent auteur cinema, which, despite their success in the festival circuit and their good critical reception, have no access to commercial venues.
Films will be projected on the same schedule and under the same title in all the cities involved (Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Madrid, and Rio de Janeiro).
The 4+1 Best Film Audience Award will be decided through direct vote by members of the public in each city. At the end of each showing, audience members will have a chance to evaluate the film according to their personal preference. The winner will receive €20,000 and a sculpture by Alfredo García Revuelva.
Along with the MAPFRE Foundation, the festival's associated institutions are: the Leopoldo Lugones Gallery in Buenos Aires; Banco do Brasil Cultural Center in Rio de Janeiro; the Cinemateca Distrital in Bogotá, Golem Theaters in Madrid; and Cineteca Nacional in Mexico. All are well known epicenters of film activity.
A sneak peek to the roster reveals the following films as part of the festival's schedule: The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye, by Marie Losier; Bell Flower, by Evan Glodell; Crazy Horse, by Frederick Wiseman; La Folie Almayer, by Chantal Akerman; Life Without Principle, by Johnnie To; and Terri, by Azazel Jacobs.
