Fernando Perez Oyarzun, National Architecture Award 2022

The National Board of Directors of the Chilean Association of Architects awarded the director of the National Museum of Fine Arts - MNBA, Fernando Pérez Oyarzun, the National Architecture Award 2022.
Fernando Pérez Oyarzun commented on the award: "I am excited and grateful to receive this award that such distinguished architects received before me. I am especially happy that this recognition finds me serving the National Museum of Fine Arts and trying to show how the discipline that formed me and the life I have been able to experience can contribute to the development of such a noble institution as this".
This is the highest distinction in Chile, which can be awarded to an architect or his studio whose trajectory and ethical and professional performance have set an example, whether in the execution of architectural works, academic work, guild work, service, or public management.
The selection process for the National Architecture Prize (the only Chilean award granted since 1969 by an institution external to the State) values not only the architectural work but also the guild or public activities in the benefit of the profession, the academic and extension activities, the public transcendence of his work, and the ethical performance of his activity.
Fernando Pérez Oyarzun's work will be exhibited during the upcoming 22nd Chilean Architecture and Urbanism Biennial and will be accompanied by a keynote lecture.
The College of Architects said: "Few figures in Chile have explored as consistently as the architect Fernando Pérez Oyarzun the countless possibilities that architecture opens up as a field of action of all kinds. Indeed, architecture has as one of its characteristic features of being an enormously open discipline, which welcomes both artistic and technical creation, historical studies and philosophical speculation, private entrepreneurship, and public management. Whose exercise undoubtedly has a personal dimension but knows an infinite number of alternatives to make this dimension something collective. This openness of our discipline is not always evident in the career and work of a single person."
"In that sense, Pérez Oyarzun has shown a strong attraction for the multiple and a rejection for any approach that is reductive, from any point of view, evidently coupled also with a particular talent to face the challenges that such a position entail."
