This Thursday, February 12th, at 4 pm, and in compliance with its Resolution 1966 of October 28th, 214, Universidad de Antioquia made official the investiture of New York-based Colombian artist Fanny Sanin as Honoris Causa Master’s in Fine Arts. The Honoris Causa Master’s Degree was given to Fanny Sanin by Universidad de Antioquia’s Upper Council, in response to the considerations offered by the institution’s Art School, among them the artist’s CV and the evaluations of a number of curators and experts, highlighting the following: “Her abstract work has sustained a level of astonishing vitality in its exploration of geometry, within the parameters of a rigorous symmetry and rationality. It features a luminosity that emerges from a grid of vertical and horizontal bands, woven by the Colombian artist in he harmonious compositions in order to suggest an optical illusion, close at times to certain modes of kinetic art, flowing from the vibrant spaces of her chromatic interstices. Magister Sanin has been able to intelligently combine, throughout her long and fruitful career, the sobriety of her visual elements, becoming a classic of our times.” “Fanny Sanin’s work, from its beginnings in the 1960s, has situated itself in a rigorous balance between structure and design, which distinguishes it in the landscape of Colombian art and renders it exceptional as a body of abstract art work. The equilibrium, based on a rigorous symmetry as its dominant axis, is applied to the form and color that characterize her pictorial oeuvre.” The resolution also highlights the considerations of the Academic Council, recognizing Fanny Sanin as “…one of Colombia’s most renowned abstract artists, with a local and international career spanning more than five decades and a large influence on diverse artist communities.”
