Tomas Saraceno's Solo exhibition in France
On July 23 was the opening of the solo exhibition Du sol au Soleil, "From the Earth to the Sun" by Argentine artist Tomas Saraceno, which took place at Le Domaine des Etangs, in the city of Massignac, France, curated by Rebecca Lamarche-Vadel, at the initiative of Garance Primat, patron and founder of the Dragonfly Collection.
Rebecca Lamarche's selection goes through the artist's imaginary and raises new associations with the collaboration of Garance Primat. Is a dialogue possible between the industrious spiders and the dragonfly of the evanescent flight that is the symbol of the art collection? "In Domaine des Etangs a spider and a dragonfly join forces to tell a life story; that's what it's all about," says Rebecca Lamarche Vadel, curator and director of the Fondation Lafayette. There are 20 historical and recent works from 2016 to the present day.
In Du sol au Soleil, Saraceno imagines wandering through human and non-human universes, revealing their choreographies and the unlimited but fragile ties that bind these worlds together. While some human activities continue to threaten entire ecologies, Du sol au Soleil is an invitation to build sustained attunements with others so that we reconsider alternative ways of inhabiting the world.
The show is inspired by the settings of Le Domaine des Etang and its attention to the preservation of ecosystems. Sitting on the edge of the 20 km2 Rochechouart meteorite crater, Domaine thus appears as a place that unites the elements and celebrates the entanglements between the aquatic, terrestrial, and celestial. Throughout the exhibition, a series of public events related to cultivating interspecies attunement, the art of awareness, and the construction of more environmentally equitable modes of existence will occur.
The project will culminate in April 2022 with Movement, a permanent, monumental, site-specific installation Du sol au Soleil, an aerial structure of both clouds and spider webs that will reveal perspectives otherwise inaccessible to humanity.
