In August 2015, the ArtCCO UDD and the Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos (MMDH) will offer a Diploma in Critical and Curatorial Studies. This diploma seeks to provide tools and promote the professionalization of curatorial studies as well as to train specialists in the design of exhibitions and treatment of their content and communications in the areas of visual arts, fashion, design, archeology and architecture. The courses will be developed by local experts, mostly trained outside Chile, and by foreign specialists who will teach international seminars open to wider audiences. By working in conjunction with the MMDH, this diploma focuses on the importance of reinterpreting memory and on curatorial practices and mechanisms for dialogue between contemporary art and the international policies that define it. This professionalization allows young curators to expand their fields of operation and specialize in areas such as institutional collection, the conservation of historical archives and objects, independent curatorship and museum curatorial work in general. The diploma is aimed at graduates in art history, philosophy and aesthetics, sociologists, artists, architects, designers, archaeologists, anthropologists, cultural managers and professionals working in museums and exhibition spaces. The diploma seeks to contribute to critical studies on contemporary art and curatorial work. It will be taught using a theoretical-practical approach. The theoretical part will be presented by the trainer using images, texts and videos. The practical part will be developed in individual and group work in which participants will apply what they have learned through the analysis of national and international curatorial cases, but also by developing curatorial projects by each student.
