"Estudio Aberto" invites artists from around the world to participate in the new edition of its art residencies at the temporal exhibition hall of the Palacio de San Marcos. This project was conceived as a space for dialogue between artists and the public. The candidates from around the world that are selected will develop their projects in front of the public, thus establishing a direct dialogue with them and the other artists. The initiative will be developed like a residency from Friday July 31 to Thursday, August 6, 2015, and will conclude with an exhibition open to the public from Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 30. Candidates will compete to win one of the eight residencies available. The selection will be heterogeneous so the following artistic disciplines are represented: painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, photography and video art. This 4th edition of the call poses a creative challenge for the participating artists. The starting point to develop the project will be different for each of them as each will have a different initial experience in one of the various museums that are part of the network (2 artists in the Museo Provincial in Lugo, 2 artists in the Museo Pazo de in Monforte de Lemos, 2 artists in the Museo Provincial del Mar in San Cibrao and 2 artists in the Museo Etnográfico in San Paio de Narla). The jury will decide which artist goes to which museum according to the nature of his/her creative process and the themes and concepts covered. On the first day the artists will be expected to gather information, research the assigned collections, draw impressions from them, and use the knowledge gained from their unique experiences that day as the starting point of their projects. Any pictures taken during that process will also become part of the documents displayed at the exhibition and in the catalog. The next day everyone will gather in Pazo San Marcos in Lugo to start creating the works in a shared studio space. Each artist will develop a project—never before published—that must conform to the terms of the residency and be accomplished within 5 working days. Participants can choose any theme, format and technique as long as their projects respect the space and other artists. The idea is to interact with the space, the context, the heritage and the collections. Artists may incorporate public participation in any modality: contribution of objects, stories, materials or collective creative workshops. Depending on each case, specific calls for participation will be made available. Participants should send their requests, along with the rest of the required paperwork, in digital format and before 2pm on June 25 to the following email address:
xerenciaredemuseos@deputacionlugo.org Paperwork: Brief dossier of a recent work (no more than 10 pages long; an artistic CV (2 pages maximum), conceptual explanation of the work/project/trajectory (no more than 1 page); and the application form duly filled out. Results and the list of the artists selected will be announced on June 30 in the website of the Museo Provincial in Lugo (http://www.museolugo.org) and in the blog of the Proyecto Enredarte (
