On September 12 of this year the Sala Hipóstila of the Biblioteca Nacional de España (BNE) will inaugurate Esteban Lisa. Returns 1895-1983, an exhibition that consists of works and a variety of objects by painter and philosopher Esteban Lisa.
The Fundación Esteban Lisa and the BNE collaborate for this exhibition to pay tribute to this Spanish-born Argentinean artist through the presentation of 120 of his works, created between the 1930s and the 1970s, along with drawings, books and photographs.
Property of the foundation, the paintings will be shown alongside 12 books from the BNE, including La Teoría de la Cosmovisión y la Visión de Platón (World View Theory and Plato's Vision), Jugando con Líneas y Colores (Playing with Lines and Colors), Esteban Lisa: Abstracción, Mundo y Significado (Esteban Lisa: Abstraction, World and Meaning), Kant, Einstein y Picasso: la Filosofía y ""Las Cuatro Dimensiones" en la Ciencia Moderna (Kant, Einstein and Picasso: Philosophy and 'The Four Dimensions' in Modern Science); Diálogos con Esteban Lisa: Colección Jorge Virgili (Dialogues with Esteban Lisa: Jorge Virgili Collection) and, La Teoría de la Cosmovisión, la Conquista de la Luna y la Ubicación del Hombre en la era Espacial: Los Enigmas del Universo y del Hombre (World View Theory, the Conquest of the Moon and the Place of Men in the Space Age: the Enigmas of the Universe and Men).
Lisa developed a completely personal visual language that was unique in the field of abstraction. Likewise, his singular and independent artistic trajectory never sought the affiliation of the artistic groups of his generation. This fact, added to never having exhibited his work while he was alive, infuses his work of a secret and intimate dimension.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until November 3 of 2013, and it will be presented in other places after it ends at the BNE. It will then be exhibited at the Museo de Santa Cruz de Toledo from November of 2013 to March of 2014.
