Esquizofrenia Tropical

As part of the PHOTOESPAÑA Festival, Madrid's Cervantes Institute, in collaboration with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID, in its Spanish acronym), presents the collective exhibition Esquizofrenia Tropical.

The show will remain open through September 16, 2012, and includes photographs by 16 young Latin American artists working from a new approach to the conceptual and social optimism currently on the rise in Latin America.

The tendency towards poverty porn—which characterized many instances of Latin American art—is abolished here, or at least it is muted from the artist's perspective. As a result of this process, there emerge images that are devoid of politics. Iatã Cannabrava was in charge of the curatorship.

The artists included in the show are: : Melba Arrelano (Mexico), Lucia Baragli (Argentina), Guadalupe Casasnovas (Dominican Republic), Pedro David (Brazil), Patricio Crooker and Alfredo Zeballos (Bolivia), José Luis Cuevas (Mexico), Alejandro Kirchuk (Argentina), Mayra Martell (Mexico), Tatewaki Nio (Brazil), Alejandro Olivares (Chile), Jorge Taboada (Mexico), Inés Tanoira and Franco Verdoia (Argentina), Tuca Vieira (Brazil), and Nicolás Wormull (Chile).
