The Exhibit Espejísmos. Antología de Joan Fontcuberta (Mirages. Anthology of Joan Fontcuberta) was inaugurated on August 5, 2008 in the church of the University of Santiago de Compostela, as part of the Olladas 08 Festival that will take place in that city. The exhibit brings together four projects created over the past 20 years that reveal the power of photography from several perspectives. These projects are montages conceived to create confusion in the spectator. As the exhibit¿s name suggests, the projects create a virtual reality that even attains scientific significance, as in the case of Fauna, in which a series of photographs are accompanied by documentation centered on animal species thought to be already extinct but which are brought back to life through photography. The montages achieved such perfection that they led to the public to believe that the photographed animals indeed existed. This anthology by Catalán artist Fontcuberta, winner of the National Photography Prize whose work has been exhibited in art venues and museums such as the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, was made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Deputación Provincial de A Coruña and the Caixa Galicia Foundation.
