Mexican Sculptures on Display in London Squares

As part of the Mexico-United Kingdom Dual Year and with the objective of promoting Mexican art abroad, the exhibition titled "Contemporary Mexican Sculpture. The Vision of Four Artists" will be on display in the main public squares of London from September to December of this year. Mexican sculptors Yvonne Domenge, José Rivelino, Paloma Torres and Jorge Yazpik participate in this exhibition with recently created monumental works in stone, bronze and resin. This is the first group exhibition of large-scale Mexican sculptures ever displayed in public spaces in the British capital, in emblematic locations like The Mall, King Charles Island, Trafalgar Square and Grosvenor Gardens in Westminster and One Canada Square in Canary Wharf. The project was curated by Katrinka Wook, an expert in Latin American art, and the themes were selected by the participating artists. Yvonne Domenge presents a geometric-organic sculpture made of fiberglass and sand that evokes the beauty and fragility of corals; José Rivelino participates with a monumental sculptural intervention created in bronze and steel that underscores the contradictions of human equality; Paloma Torres presents a utilitarian sculpture in bronze that addresses the relationship between the city and nature; and Jorge Yazpik's contribution is a volcanic stone carving that evokes the origins and geology of Mexico City.
