The Fundación Casa de México presents for the first time in Spain the Jumex Collection, one of the most relevant contemporary art collections in Latin America. Under the title Éramos felices y no lo sabíamos (We Were Happy and We Didn't Know It), this show brings together the work of twenty-eight artists, some of them Mexican and others living in the country. On view are works in different media such as installation, photography and sculpture.
The curatorial work of Ixel Rion Lora aims to give a new perspective on contemporary art in Mexico in the 1990s, covering two decades of production, up to around 2010. Thus, it proposes a journey as a tribute to the artistic production in the urban environment of Mexico. The show is divided into five parts: the city, space, social context, identity and material.
The Fundación Jumex de Arte Contemporáneo was created to promote the production, discussion and knowledge of contemporary art and to generate innovative ways of fostering art and culture. The collection currently has more than 3,000 works of art. The exhibition will be open until June 8.
The artists on exhibition are:
