Entre dos orillas: puentes, progreso, país

Based on her book titled Tarabitas y Cabuyas: La Representación del Puente en Colombia Durante el Siglo XIX (Cablecars and Ropes: The Representation of Bridges in Colombia During the Nineteenth Century), author Verónica Uribe-Hanabergh developed the curatorship for the exhibition titled "Between Two Banks, Bridges, Progress, and Country." In the context of the celebration of the year of cultural exchange between France and Colombia, the Museo Nacional de Colombia and the Universidad de los Andes propose with this exhibition an invitation to think about the importance of the idea of crossing, not only the complex network of rivers across Colombia that Uribe-Hanabergh presents in her book, but also the connections that are possible between two geographically distant countries. The exhibition includes works from the Museo Nacional de Colombia's collection and from several other institutions and private collections. The gazes of Colombian artists like José María Espinosa, Ricardo Moros, Manuel María Paz, Peregrino Rivera-Arce, and Fernando Carrizosa-Valenzuela are presented alongside those by French artists like Auguste Le Moyne and Charles Saffray. Divided into three sections (Bridges, Progress, and Country), the watercolors and engravings displayed offer images that attest to the diversity of resources employed to overcome geographic obstacles.
