International Encounter and Workshop on Kinetic Art

For the year 2009, and in coincidence with the 50th anniversary of the institution, the Visual Arts Direction at Casa de las Américas has decided to dedicate this year to Kinetic Art and its main contributors. The kinetic movement was one of the most important during the second half of the 20th century. It was an initiative that searched to produce the impression or illusion of instability and movement by using optical techniques such as the play between lights and shadows, color contrast or the size or proportionality of the objects that generate the sensation of mobility. The Visual Arts Direction at Casa de las Américas calls for the International Encounter and Workshop on Kinetic Art, imparted from the 18th through the 28th of May, 2009 by prestigious artists. Participants will have the chance to share with the main exhibitors of kinetic art internationally. The course will last for 10 days, with 60 hours of lecture. The cost of registration is 100.00 CUC, and shall be paid at your arrival to Casa de las Américas. At the end of the course, all participants will be given an accreditation certificate. Those interested must send the registration form before March 31, 2009.
